zotac_logon

Triple-screen support

Zotac has launched yet another card that will be a part of its Multiview series of graphics cards, the GTX 550 Ti Multiview

Multiview series graphics cards are pretty much identical to the regular ones except for the fact that they supports up to three displays connected at the same time. The new GTX 550 Ti features 192 CUDA cores and ticks at 900MHz for the GPU, 1800MHz for shaders and 4100MHz for 1GB of GDDR 5 memory paired up with a 192-bit memory interface. It comes with two DVI, DisplayPort and two HDMI outputs that can be used to connect three displays via two HDMI ports and either the DVI or DP port

The card still uses the dual-slot cooler seen on other Zotac cards and features support for 2-way SLI, DirectX 11, Nvidia CUDA and PhysX. Unfortunately, Zotac didn't reveal any details regarding the availability of the card or its actual price but you can expect it to be priced at about €130.

OEM-only card goes to retail

Although it was initially announced and released as an OEM-only card, Nvidia's Geforce GT 545 will find its way to retail/e-tail thanks to the EVGA

The card is based on Nvidia's reference design and features 144 CUDA cores and works at 720MHz for the GPU and 1800MHz for 1.5GB of DDR3 memory paired up with a 192-bit memory interface. It features support for DirectX 11, Nvidia PhysX, CUDA and 3D Vision, and can be paired with a same card for some 2-way SLI fun. As noted, the card retained the reference look so we are looking at a single-slot card with an active cooler with a small fan

The new GT 545 has HDMI, D-Sub and DVI outputs and it should start to appear in retail/e-tails shops pretty soon with a price tag set at around US $150.

Firefox 5 comes on 24th

No more tracking

Firefox 5 has been in Beta for quite a while, and the current iteration of Beta works just fine. It doesn't crash, it opens any site that we usually visit and Flash works for all of them

This is not a big surprise considering that beta is supposed to come on June 24th and one big feature that was even requested by US Congress was the do not track option. To elaborate, Google and other advertising giants tend to look at what are you searching for, let’s say tablets or shoes, and they will serve you ads to match you interest

Firefox 5 under privacy settings now you can check "Tell web sites I do not want to be tracked". If you prefer private browsing, a browsing that leaves no trace on your computer, there is an option Permanent private browsing mode, but this mode won't have any browsing history, in case you care about it

This comes with Firefox 5.0, most likely before the end of this work week

Intel commits Cedar View for 5 year support

Embedded market to get it until Q3 2016

We have to admit that we don't pay too much attention to the embedded market and Intel has some huge plans with a lot of its processors

It has caught our eye that Intel plans to offer upcoming Cedar view Atom processors for the embedded market for at least five years. This is what embedded market wants as they are not so frequent and fast with innovation and unnecessary updates, and they like the long term support. Intel has told its partners that Cedar view D2700 embedded Atom as well as mobile N2800 embedded will be offered for five years as of Q3 2011.

This means that whoever decides to use embedded Cedar View or NM10 chipset they will be able to get it until Q3 2016. This is definitely a long term commitment and in this market Intel offers Z670 and Z650 and matching SM35 chipset for less than that, but at least from Q1 2011 until Q1 2012 and possibly onwards

In the meantime Cedar View will get replaced by the new 22nm Atom platform, but Cedar View embedded will coexist with this one and most likely at least with Atom 15nm, the one that comes in a few years
